Vols OL Javontez Spraggins has proven Tennessee can lean on him

Tennessee prides itself in running the football, which is called the “secret sauce” behind the Vols’ high-powered offense. That sauce is made much tangier by Javontez Spraggins.

The Vols know what they’ve got with Spraggins. He’s proven he can  man the right guard position and be dominant at times. That makes him the tenth most important Vol heading into the 2024 season:

Why?

Spraggins is very important for two reasons. First, he’s a proven commodity with 37 career starts, mostly at right guard, where he only allowed two sacks in 699 offensive plays that he took part in last season.

Spraggins is also a part of a paper-thin offensive line in which his backup may not even be determined yet. The Vols could shift guards around if Spraggins is forced to miss any time this season. However, Jackson Lampley and Dayne Davis would be possibilities if Spraggins was out of the lineup for any reason.

What If?

As will be a recurring theme in this series, the Vols don’t have much depth on the offensive line. Losing Spraggins would certainly affect the Vols in the running game as he is one of Tennessee’s most powerful blockers. Spraggins has also been consistent so any absence would be noticeable.

Conclusion

Spraggins has two seasons of eligibility remaining, but he could certainly leave the Vols after this season with another productive year.

Worth Noting

In 33 offensive snaps, Spraggins did not allow a quarterback pressure against No. 1 Georgia.

Coming up at No. 9: OT John Campbell Jr.
