Alvin Kamara. Cordarrelle Patterson. Malik Benson.

All three played football at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas. Two went on to thrive at Tennessee and the third now considers the Vols favorites for his services.

That third is of course Benson, the No. 1 JUCO prospect in the 2023 cycle and an elite wide receiver with an impressive offer list of Alabama, Georgia, Oregon, LSU among many others.

Tennessee cracked Benson’s top 5 in late May.

Benson visited Tennessee last Friday and came away impressed.

Benson had two more visits following his visit to Knoxville. The 6-foot-1 receiver visited Georgia and Alabama this past week. Benson had already visited LSU and Oregon when he made the above comment.

What would Tennessee get with Benson

Assuming Benson will follow in the footsteps of Kamara and Patterson may be anecdotal, but semi-founded. Benson will likely be the latest to follow in a line of legitimate talent from the school.

Benson has speed, but what impresses most is his route-running ability and prowess in the open field. At Hutchinson, Benson did a lot of his best work at full speed. A lot of his scoring plays came on come-back routes, screens and slants where his speed could do the work for him.

Josh Heupel and Alex Golesh’s offense is one Benson could thrive in, similar to Velus Jones last season.

Benson caught 43 passes for 1,229 yards and 11 touchdowns as a freshman

Tennessee has offered and hosted some elite wide receiver talent as of late. Five-star prospect Carnell Tate will soon decide between Tennessee, Ohio State and Notre Dame. Florida native Aidan Mizell was also recently on campus and has been trending towards Tennessee as of late.

Benson would be quite the compliment alongside those potential prospects.
