Francis Mauigoa’s recruiting journey is about to come to an end.
The five-star offensive lineman from IMG Academy in Bradenton Fla., said he wold commit to his chosen school on July 4, according to comments he made during a video posted on Volquest.com at McGhee Tyson Airport on Sunday morning.
Mauigoa said his entire visit to Tennessee, which began on Friday, was “awesome”.
“I just Just felt the energy. I just felt the vibe. I just felt the atmosphere,” the highest rated offensive tackle in the nation said. “People around here, they just know and love the Volunteers. They support Tennessee…I already like the support and the fan base.”
Mauigoa, a 6-foot-5, 330-pound prospect from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., has been to Tennessee before. This return trip was about getting his family more acquainted with Tennessee, which they were able to do during a Saturday tour of campus.
Mauigoa said his grandfather was able to bond with five-star quarterback Nico Iamaleava’s father because their backgrounds allowed them to overcome any struggles that Mauigoa’s grandfather has with speaking English.
“I think this is one of their favorite visits,” Mauigoa said of his family’s response to the Tennessee trip.
Mauigoa said he has not made his final decision, but will do so after more discussions with his family. Mauigoa has taken official visits to Alabama, Florida, Miami and Southern California, in addition to his trip to Knoxville.
He said that developing as a player is the most important factor in his decision since he’s comfortable with all the academic offerings and support among all of his finalists.
“I could get myself to the NFL if I put in the work,” Mauigoa said, “but I need someone to guide me there.”
