Historic? Tennessee’s offense is setting mind-blowing benchmarks

Tennessee beat Florida. That is obviously the biggest news of the weekend. However, there’s more.

The Vols 38-33 win over the Gators is the latest in what has become more than just a casual trend. In case you haven’t noticed, Tennessee’s offense can score – a lot. In fact, the Vols are putting up some historic numbers.

Let’s start with early season success. The Vols have scored 30 points or more in their first four games this season. That’s the first time that the Vols have pulled off that feat since 1993. That was a pretty good offense to say the least, headed up by former UT quarterback Heath Shuler.

The Vols have also scored 194 points this season in four games. That’s the most for any Tennessee football team since 1915, which managed 202 points in leather helmets. As for the most points scored by any SEC team in its first four games, the Vols are noteworthy there as well.

Tennessee’s 194 points in four games is the most by any SEC team since Alabama scored 194 points in 2020. That team did okay. The Crimson Tide finished the season undefeated and won the national championship.

Tennessee’s offense is also thriving in the here and now. The Vols have the longest streak of scoring 30 points or more in the SEC. Tennessee has topped the 30-point mark in each game since facing Georgia on Nov. 13 last season. There’s no shame in having an off day against the Bulldogs last year considering Georgia fielded one of the best defenses in recent memory.

Of course, all the stats are nice. However, the one stat that matters is Tennessee unblemished record. The Vols are 4-0 for the time since 2016, which happens to be the last time the Vols beat Florida.
