Tennessee football all of a sudden loaded at RT by adding Miami transfer OL John Campbell

In the SEC, having depth on the offensive line. On Monday, Tennessee football picked up a big piece to the future of their offensive line. 

John Campbell Jr., a transfer offensive lineman from Miami, announced he would be committing to Tennessee. 

Campbell had 18 starts while at Miami. The former class of 2018 lineman has two years of eligibility remaining. He has seen playing time for the Hurricanes since his true freshman year. He missed the whole of the 2021 season dealing with a leg injury. 

The decision came down to Florida, Florida State, and Tennessee for Campbell. The 6-foot-5, 320-pound lineman visited all three schools. His most recent visit was to Gainesville. 

Campbell was a three-star prospect out of Orlando, Fla. He attended Dr. Phillips High School.

Out of high school, Campbell was ranked as the No. 481 prospect nationally and the No. 36 offensive tackle in the 2018 class. He had over 35 offers out of high school, including one from Tennessee football. He ultimately signed with Miami. 

He joins former Texas offensive lineman Andrej Karic as transfer offensive lineman. With both Darnell Wright and Jerome Carvin on their way out, Karic and Campbell could have big roles in the 2023 season for Tennessee. 

Campbell also could be a perfect fit for the outgoing Wright at right tackle. 

Campbell’s announcement camps off a great day for Tennessee as the Vols added two transfers. 

Tennessee picked up former Oregon wideout Dont’e Thornton. The 6-5 receiver is a big pickup for Tennessee football with Jalin Hyatt and Cedric Tillman on the way out. 

Thornton finished this past season at Oregon with 17 catches for 366 yards and a touchdown. He lined up in the slot for the majority of his time as a Duck. 

The Vols also picked up Omarr Norman-Lott out of Arizona State on Monday. He also fills a big void for Tennessee as Latrell Bumphus and Tyler Baron on the way out. 

Norman-Lott appeared in nine games in 2022, finishing with 14 tackles, with three tackles for loss and two sacks.
