Could Tennessee football land Ole Miss transfer CB Davison Igbinosun?

The Vols have been gaining some buzz to land another transfer cornerback, this time from Ole Miss. Davison Igbinosun, who entered the transfer portal on Jan. 14, hasn’t announced where he will be transferring yet, but it seems that Tennessee football may have a shot.

He ranks near the top of available transfer prospects. Coming out of high school in 2022, Igbinosun was the No. 1 cornerback out of New Jersey.

“I want to thank the Ole Miss community and coach Kiffin for giving me the opportunity to play at their school,” he wrote. “But at this moment due to the uncertainty in the coaching staff, it’s best for me to enter the Transfer Portal.”

Igbinosun appeared in 11 games as a freshman at Ole Miss, tallying 37 total tackles and five pass breakups. Not long before announcing his intention to transfer, Igbinosun inked a deal with “The Grove Collective,” Ole Miss’ NIL group.

Considering that, it seems the Rebels aren’t out of the picture to retain Igbinosun. Lane Kiffin hired Pete Golding as his defensive coordinator, and the pair are surely making the pitch for Igbinson to stay in Oxford.

Igbinosun’s former defensive coordinator Chris Partridge has yet to find a new job. Potentially, the cornerback could follow his former coach. Partridge was a large part of why Igbinosun chose Ole Miss in the first place.

The Vols are very much in the Igbinosun sweepstakes. Tennessee football made the final cut of schools in Igbinosun’s original recruitment and have been aggressive since he has entered the portal.

He could potentially join former BYU cornerback Gabe Jeudy-Lally as transfers the Vols picked up to bolster their secondary. They clearly need the secondary help, hoping to improve a unit that ranked near the bottom of the FBS rankings.

Texas A&M is also vying for the cornerback’s talents. Jimbo Fisher has made a strong push for Ingbinosun.

Recently, Michigan has been gaining some buzz in the hunt for Igbinosun. Like most players in the transfer portal, things happen suddenly without much talk beforehand. It seems the Wolverines are rising quickly on his list.

Rutgers also seems like an obvious possible spot for the cornerback. Igbinosun’s brother, Desmond, is a safety for the Knights. He is also a New Jersey native.

While the Vols may seem like a long shot for Igbinosun, like many things in the transfer portal, anything may happen. Josh Heupel and Tennessee football certainly have a shot.
