No college football over the weekend doesn’t mean no news, as two NFL legends relevant to Tennessee football were in the headlines. Caleb Calhoun and Dave Hooker touch on Peyton Manning and Jim Brown stories on Off the Hook Sports’ Monday, May 22 podcast. They also look at Vols among the 2023 top players and possible outcomes this year. Then there are the Big Ten and USC issues.

Tennessee football best to worst case scenarios

Brad Crawford of 247Sports wrote the best case scenario for Tennessee football to be 11-1 and the worst-case scenario to be 8-4. Which one is more realistic for the Vols? What are the best to worst case scenarios for the rest of the teams in the SEC? Is UT guaranteed to finish in the top 25?

ON3’s top 100 list includes two Tennessee football players

Nick Schultz of ON3 named Tennessee football quarterback Joe Milton III and wide receiver Dont’e Thornton, who just transferred from the Oregon Ducks, on his list of top 100 players for the 2023 season. Should other Vols be on there? Are these two Vols being overrated given that neither started last year?

Jim Irsay shades Tennessee football legend

In the wake of Jim Brown’s death, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay named him on his top five list of football players. He also had John Elway and Tom Brady on there, but he left off the quarterback who delivered him his only Super Bowl, Peyton Manning. Why does he have issues with Manning?

Jim Brown vs. Johnny Majors

Before Peyton Manning, Johnny Majors was infamously snubbed from winning the Heisman Trophy in 1956. Tennessee football went 10-0, but it went to Paul Hornung of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who went 2-8. Jim Brown of Syracuse was also there. Should Majors or Brown have won the Heisman over Hornung?

Big Ten has major issues

Recent reporting by ESPN suggests the Big Ten jumped into its new TV contracts far too quickly and hasn’t been able to address some issues that were already embedded into previous TV deals. What was previous B1G commissioner Kevin Warren responsible for, and how much damage did he cause?
