Four-star in-state prospect Boo Carter is expected to announce his college decision on Saturday night. Tennessee football is trending to land Carter.

The decision will be revealed at approximately 8 p.m. ET at the 40/40 club in New York City. Here are five things to know about Carter, and his upcoming decision.

Two-horse race

Carter’s decision will come down to Michigan and Tennessee. The four-star prospect has been trending toward the Vols for most of his recruitment, but Michigan is making a late push for Carter.

Tennessee currently has both crystal balls in the 247Sports database, projecting Carter will become a Vol.

Michigan hosted Carter for an official visit last weekend, and he unofficially visited Tennessee on Wednesday and Thursday. Other schools in his top list include Colorado, Oregon and Ohio State.

Where Carter ranks

Carter is a four-star prospect on every website except 247Sports. 247Sports ranks Carter as the No. 37 athlete and the No. 8 prospect in Tennessee.

On3 holds Carter as the No. 247 prospect nationally and the No. 8 athlete in the 2024 class. He also ranks as the No. 5 prospect in Tennessee.

Rivals ranks Carter as the No. 50 prospect nationally and the No. 9 athlete in the class. He is the No. 1 prospect out of Tennessee on Rivals.

Where will Carter play?

Listed as an athlete, Carter plays on both sides of the ball for Bradley Central High School in Cleveland, Tennessee. Tennessee views Carter as a defensive back while the Wolverines view Carter as a wide receiver.

The 5-foot-10 and 180-pound athlete is capable on either side of the play, but is it curious to see if position will play a role in where he ends up committing.

The numbers

Carter transferred to the aforementioned Bradley Central for his senior season. He played football last fall for Chattanooga Christian School before transferring to Brainerd following the season.

He played basketball for Brainerd, but was forced to transfer outside a 30-mile radius of his previous CCS or he would have to sit out his senior season.

While at CCS last fall, Carter He had 678 yards and 18 TDs on the ground, and he had 36 receptions for 780 yards and 10 TDs through the air.

Locking down Tennessee

Previous head coaches didn’t focus on locking down the Tri-Star State, but current head coach Josh Heupel has. Carter is another important piece to that puzzle.

Just over an hour from Knoxville, Carter is the type of highly-touted prospect that the Vols need to land if they plan to make a jump in college football.

Tennessee is full of talent, and Heupel has to keep it in-state.
