There can be no doubt Tennessee Football had revenge on its mind Saturday night when the South Carolina Gamecocks came to town. The Vols donned their Dark Mode uniforms, it was a night game, and fans were rocking from start to finish as they walked away with a 41-20 win.
However, South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler, who had his coming out party last year against UT before struggling in this game, took it a step further. Rattler accused the Vols of treating this like their “Super Bowl.” Tight end Jacob Warren didn’t let the comments get to him.
“He can say that if he wants,” Warren said. “It doesn’t matter to me. They rushed the field on us last year, so that was their Super Bowl I guess. They won it last year, we won it this year.”
Warren noted that he wasn’t aware of the comments when they were made but saw them trending on Twitter afterward. To Rattler’s credit, he did say that Neyland Stadium was a great environment before he made that statement.
Still, as Warren acknowledged, any win against a fellow SEC East team that has proven themselves to be somewhat formidable shouldn’t be downplayed. That would be the case even if there wasn’t a revenge factor coming off last year’s 63-38 loss that cost UT a shot at the College Football Playoff.
“What do I have to do with him? I don’t know. Nothing,” Warren said of Rattler. “At the end of the day, maybe he’s trying to make himself feel better about it.”
As far as his play on the field, Rattler was 24-of-35 for 169 yards, 0 touchdowns and a pick-six. He was also sacked six times. It was easily his worst performance since losing to the Florida Gators last year a week before he ironically got red-hot against Tennessee Football.
To be fair to him in this game, he had no help from his offensive line, and that’s been an issue all year. However, he still made plenty of mistakes, and the results are the results, as Warren had no trouble pointing out.
“You can’t argue with what happened on the field, and that’s what we’re all concerned about,” he said.

Rattler is delusional and clearly over estimates where he & SC fit into the pecking order with Tennessee Football. It was a big game because it was a SEC game, so is Vandy. I had SC fans asking me if the packed concourse & portals at Neyland happened every game. Yep, something SC fans probably not familiar with and don’t have to deal with at their home games.
