Jimmy Hyams and Stephen Hargis join Caleb Calhoun and Dave Hooker on Off the Hook Sports’ Wednesday, Dec. 6 podcast to discuss the Vol of the Year and Tennessee Football recruiting respectively. The show also covers Keenan Pili, UT Basketball, scheduling and the CFP and the new NCAA NIL proposal.

Who is the VOL Of the Year?

Time recently named Taylor Swift it’s Person of the Year. If the Vols had such an award, who would win it this year? Would somebody affiliated with Tennessee Football, the athletic department or another sport win it? What about players or coaches? Which figure was the most crucial to UT’s athletic success this year?

Keenan Pili expected to return to Tennessee Football

While not officially out yet, reports surfaced Tuesday, particularly to 247Sports, that Tennessee Football linebacker Keenan Pili will seek a medical redshirt to return for a seventh season next year. Pili transferred from the BYU Cougars but suffered a season-ending injury in the opener this year.

12-team CFP and scheduling

With the coming 12-team College Football Playoff next year, will that make teams more or less likely to schedule tough non-conference games? Does the expansion of the SEC and Big Ten and leagues moving to nine conference games have an impact on that as well? Will the regular season be more or less fun?

Basketball Vols beat George Mason

Jonas Aidoo had a career night Tuesday as Tennessee Basketball scored a 21-point victory over the George Mason Patriots nearly a week after losing to the North Carolina Tar Heels. However, did the Vols show what they needed to show in this win, particularly down low in the paint with Aidoo and Tobe Awaka?

Stephen Hargis on Tennessee Football recruiting

Chattanooga Times Free Press reporter Stephen Hargis joins the show to discuss Tennessee Football on the recruiting trail, most notably Boo Carter, who has been committed to the Vols for a while now. What is his status? Is he helping to lure other people to Rocky Top right now? Will he be successful at all?

NCAA NIL proposal

In a shocking twist, the NCAA has now proposed a new name, image and likeness rule that would allow Division I schools and athletes enter into deals. Currently, schools are not supposed to be involved in NIL at all, and it isn’t supposed to be used for recruiting purposes. What type of impact will this have on college football? Is this a concession by the organization?
