What a Sports Weekend for Tennessee Athletics!
Tennessee fans paying attention to more than just the big win in Tuscaloosa Saturday night, the weekend was a huge success for Vol and Lady Vol teams. Only one thing could’ve made it better and that’s if the Lady Vols could’ve pulled off the upset in Columbia of the top-ranked SC basketball team. They came within eight points of doing that which was probably closer than most Tennessee fans expected. Let’s look back on the weekend and take note of how strong the Tennessee spring sports teams are.
The fourth ranked Tennessee Vols took down Bama in Tuscaloosa with a dominant defensive performance 81-74. The Vols handed the Tide it’s first home court defeat in seventeen games as Bama was on a sixteen game home win streak. The win gives Tennessee sole possession of first place in the SEC. The beauty of this win was the Vols won without playing one of their better offensive games. The Vols only shot 36% from the floor, 30% from the arc and were out rebounded by Bama. They did manage to take care of the ball with only six turnovers. Tennessee’s Mr Everything Dalton Knecht only scored thirteen points but got help from Aidoo, James and a handful of Vols that made timely buckets throughout the game. Now the Vols must put Saturday’s exciting win behind them and attempt to avenge their only home court loss this season against SC in Columbia. It’ll be tough for anyone who has been watching SC play very tough in their recent games.
The 7th/8th ranked Tennessee Baseball Team took a weekend series sweep over Bowling Green with three run rule games. The Vols combined outstanding pitching with exciting at bats to completely dominate the series. Keep an eye on this team as it combines several young talented Vols with some crafty veterans that should make for an exciting season.
