What you need to know: Tennessee baseball to face LSU at home

No. 4 Tennessee continued its offensive onslaught with a 20-2 mid-week victory over Alabama A&M on Tuesday in Knoxville. This weekend, the defending national champion LSU Tigers come to town for a three-game series.

Things to note for the upcoming matchup:

Home is where the wins are

The Diamond Vols are 22-2 when hosting at Lindsey Nelson Stadium this season. Tennessee will need this home field advantage as LSU has won 18 of their last 26 meetings.

Moore long balls

While it seems like everyone on the Tennessee roster is hitting the ball, one Vol who is standing out is SEC player of the week, junior Christian Moore. Moore earned this accolade after homering in all three games versus Auburn, racking up 10 RBIs.

Tiger bat to watch out for

First baseman Jared Jones hit three home runs against McNeese Tuesday night, tying the school’s single-game record. Jones has 14 home runs on the year and a team leading 34 RBIs.

Armed and ready

LSU pitcher and Saturday’s scheduled starter Luke Holman is 6-1 this season with a 2.01 ERA in 34.2 innings. He has only given up 13 walks and recorded 71 strikeouts. Opponents are only hitting .174 against him.

Sunday Funday

Tennessee has won their last three SEC series in a row. Much of that success has come down to the rubber match – the Vols are 3-1 on Sundays vs SEC opponents.

Bottom line – Tennessee will need to keep those bats hot all weekend long against a tough LSU team.
