Alabama Crimson Tide hiring Ryan Grubb as OC should TERRIFY Vols, other SEC rivals

Everybody was already way to quick to give up on Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer. He was stuck with a quarterback in Jalen Milroe who wasn’t fit for his system but who he had to start for team chemistry purposes since the rest of the players loved him. Somehow, he still managed nine wins.

Remember, Milroe was benched in 2023. Nick Saban had to basically take over the offense and install a system to fit him, and that overwork forced him into retirement. Milroe leaving was alone enough to believe DeBoer would take a step forward this year, along with a second straight top five recruiting class.

Recent developments with the Alabama Crimson Tide should strike fear in SEC foes even more.

DeBoer is reuniting with Ryan Grubb. According to reports, the Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator from 2024 is going to take the same role with Alabama in 2025. Grubb had been DeBoer’s OC his entire head coaching career at the FBS level and actually helped him install this version of the air raid back in Sioux Falls.

This duo went 25-3 with the Washington Huskies and immediately turned around the Fresno State Bulldogs, who went 9-3 in 2021 after going 4-8 in 2019, the year before DeBoer got there. They made Michael Penix Jr. a Heisman candidate and had a top 15 offnse both years at Washington.

With these two working together again, the SEC is in trouble. Alabama could dominate it just as they did with Saban to the degree that’s possible in the NIL age. Tennessee beat Bama last year just by keeping Milroe in the pocket. That won’t be the likely path this year with Grubb and a new quarterback. Oh, and it’s on the road.

It’s not just the fact that Grubb is coming back, though. Who he replaces should also help. Nick Sheridan and JaMarcus Shephard were co-offensive coordinators of Bama this past year. Their inability to help DeBoer adjust to Milroe’s style of play was as much of an issue as Milroe himself.

Sheridan was fired by the Indiana Hoosiers for a reason in 2021, and Shephard had never been an offensive coordinator. Unlike Grubb, he didn’t really have the cache to bring new ideas to DeBoer, similar to how Joey Halzle is with Josh Heupel, and it proved costly. Grubb replacing them with Milroe leaving is a huge deal.

Taking all this into account, Bama is back, and nobody in the SEC knows it yet. They may now have the most cutting-edge offense in the league, beyond what Heupel and Lane Kiffin run, and they may have offensive minds beyond Steve Sarkisian. Oh, they also have a ton of options to replace Milroe. One is bound to be a fit.

Maybe this was DeBoer’s plan all along. Wait a year and bring Grubb back. Who knows? What we do know is that with those two back together, even with a brutal schedule, it’s hard to see this team not looking like the most talented in the league next year. Everybody should be on high alert.

The word you’re looking for is CACHET, not cache.
